my boat wont go into reverse gear, what could be problem?

i got 95 model yamaha 70hp with 703 remote control.

when shift to reverse is always 'SLOW' but it just getting worse day by day.

now days if i switch into reverse slowly it will not go reverse at all just stay in neutrals, untill the stick is over 35° and engine reves up and it still will not go reverse. however if i slam it into reverse really fast, i mean by pulling the leaver so fast to 35°-45°. most the time it will go reverse.

going forward is no problem at all, 25° it goes in gear, it idels up to 35° and then revs up.

what could be the problem?

You could need a new shift cable. Un hook the shift cable at the motor and manually shift motor (motor off), see if it requires excessive movement.
