  • low rpms

i recently purchased a G3 barge with a 40hp 2stroke. It did not seem to get very high rpms. The auto oil injection had been disconnected and i am mixing oil in gas. Felt the engine block after running for a while it seemed warmer than normal. Will the engin run ok if i remove the thermostat. I will not be running it in the winter.

Best not to remove or operate motor without thermostat, since it is a key element in your motor's cooling system. Maybe inspect/replace water pump, thermostat and pressure control valve to ensure cooling system if fresh and operating correctly. Good Luck!

You might not be getting the rpm you expect because you have a prop with too much pitch. It may be that the engine is powering out because of the load you are asking it to push. I would suggest you: 1) use an infrared temperature gun to get accurate temperatures on various parts of your block, 2) try a prop with less pitch,3) service your cooling system as Robert Graham suggests.
