I have a 40 HP outboard, the amount it pees out the end is as cold as the water going in also the flow would make you think its a jet boat, but it is overheating. Anyone have any thoughts.

Thermostat or plugged cooling passages. When was the last time you pulled stat and inspected the passage and stat?

Just bought the engine as was told it had been serviced regularly. But if things were plugged up I wouldnt get the extreme amount (and it is extreme) of water exiting the engine would I?

Tell tail comes out before running through motor that is why it is not hot.

Might want to test thermo switches and stat to make sure they are operating in spec
and measure temp on head to make sure it is overheating.

How are you sure it is overheating?
