  • Counter Rotation Engine

I have a general type question. Is there any disadvantages or valid reasons why a regular rotation engine is preferred over a counter rotating engine. The reason I'm asking is I have a chance to buy a used (220 hours) four stroke 225 HP Yamaha F225TXRD (2005 model) at a good price. Only problem is it is the "other" side of a twin engine installation- the counter rotating engine. Prop comes with motor. Are there any other differences other than the gearing in the foot? Any comments, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

no differences whatsoever, maybe the right hand prop and lower unit is easier to find/replace. if there were any difference, how would it equal its partner. the ONLY thing is the torque pulls the other way.
