  • hot horn come on at idle and fast speed

I have a 2001, 225hp LX225TXRZ, AND THE HOT HORN COMES ON AT FAST AND IDLE SPEED, THE THEROSTATE AND OIL LEVEL GUAGES CHECK OUT OK, WHAT ELSE COULD SET OFF THE HOT HORN OR BE MY PROBLEM, THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

IF the boat is used in saltwater, the engine may have the dreaded interior corrosion of the exhaust housing. There is a flat aluminum plate that separates the exhaust from the incoming cooler water, and when that corrodes through, the result is a low speed or idle overheat that goes away when the engine revs up higher.

If that is the case, the powerhead has to be removed and the exhaust section inspected closely.

Low oil level in engine oil tank and overheat will activate alarm, if oil level is ok then probably need to start with a new water pump, check thermostats and clean pressure control valve.
