  • Lead or no Lead, that is the question.

    Hi all,
Managed to get the skeg repaired on my 6G8 9.9hp (1985?)and before I go off to do a bit of fishing at my local lake - does the Yammie like lead free fuel or do I need to mix in a lead replacement addative? Thanks

I have not seen leaded fuel since the 70's
Are you thinking about ethanol fuel blend maybe instead of leaded?

Leaded fuel was phased out in Europe in the early eighties, so for instance, my Triumph Spitfire (1980) needs a lead replacement addative in the fuel to protect the valves from excessive wear. I am now worried the outboard might need similar treatment. Mike

Yamaha started selling outboards here in the USA in 1984 and all the motors here are made for unleaded gas.

Thanks for the replies - managed to contact the previous owner of the engine through a chandlery who knew him, it runs on normal unleaded fuel thankfully.
