  • Carb isolation

My 50 hp stutters when idling. I can almost time it to the second when this occurs and I am wondering if I can make the engine idle if it each carb is isolated from the others to determine which carb is having the problem. I somewhat suspect that it may be sucking air and each time it encounters a bubble, it stumbles. The fuel line is 14 years old but looks good but it could be the culprit or as many will say clean all the carbs. Hopefully my last resort.

You could start by draining each carb onto a clean white cloth to check for water or debris in the float chambers. You could have a sticky float valve or a plugged idle jet. Is your gas good and fresh? Have you given the motor a good hard run down the lake at wide open throttle? Are your plugs clean and dry(not wet with fuel)? Check it out and let us know what you find. Good Luck!
