Trim Sensor 2004 F-115

Our Starboard engine trim gauge shows full trim all the time. Checked the trim switch at the engine and there was some grease on the switch arm. Removed and cleaned best we could and still shows full trim on the gauge. Could the trim switch be bad?

Make sure that the cam on the steering tube is not cracked or broken. It may not be contacting the sender properly. You can test the sender with an ohm meter.

We checked the tube and it appears to be ok. Did have the wife monitor the gauge while we moved the lever and the trim bar did not move.

There is a delay in gauge, takes a couple seconds for the gauge to react to sender setting. Test sender and wiring between sender and tach.

My F150 just experianced the same problem.

As stated above, there's a plastic piece that clamps around the steering tube with a tab. That tab, pushes on the actual sensor when the motor is tilted. The plastic piece cracked and slipped around on the tube instead of activating the switch....

Yamaha up graded the part to a steel "U" shape clamp with one long bolt that helps clamp the new part to the steering tube. The new part has a steel tab that now actuates the switch. You'll see the switch ( and two wires) just up and behind the steering tube, just under the powerhead...(if its the same as the F150)
