  • Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke won't start without priming

I had a problem with my Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke running rough and on the forum someone said to take the carb apart and clean it so I did. It started right up and after a couple of hickups it ran great. Now my problem is it won't start after shutting it off without priming the carb 1st. My initial thought is the fuel pump but I hate to buy a new one if there is another possibility. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Check all your hose connections to make sure their tight and you have no air leaks in the fuel system(including o-rings at quick disconnects).

If the gas tank is considerably lower than the engine and the primer bulb is malfunctioning, it could cause problems. The primer bulb should allow fuel in way direction only and drain back. Cheaper (chinese) primer bulbs don't tend to hold up as well as name brand bulbs. Get a genuine Yamaha/mercury etc bulb..

If that doesn't pan out, you may be able to get a rebuild kit for the for fuel pump.
