  • Transom Clam Screw Replacement

I just received the parts to replace the bent screw on my 1993 25hp 2 cycle. I hacksawed off the old one so that I could get it out and wonder how to "mushroom" the end once I screw it into the bracket clamp. The mushroom on the end of the screw retains the round transom clamp pad.

I appreciate any answers or suggestions.

    Thanks

I don't know exactly how they do that mushroom trick to hold the pad on but maybe a blob of silicone rubber would hold it in place until you get it screwed back on the transom, then the screw will hold it in place?

You won't get that factory finish but using a punch try and bend the material over. I have used a chisel too but might want to use a slightly blunt one. Also tried a ball bearing but that only helps if you start it off a bit with the punch, tighten it down on a metal stand.
