Temp Alarm on 2002 60hp 2 Stroke.

Hi:
I have a 2002 60hp 2 stroke that the temp alarm comes on when driving at low *****ing speeds. it goes into limp mode until i give it throttle for a mintue. if i turn the engine off and leave the power on the alrm keeps buzzing for around 10-15 mintues but soon as i give it throttle for about 1 mintue it works fine. it happens at around low rpms between 6 and 7.any info would be great

My friends boat had the very same issue last year but it was a 2003 60hp,if you have checked the obvious.

The water flow out of the engine is suffient and that the water pump impellor is within service or has been changed recently you can test the thermo switch which is located in the upper most part of the head normally a rubber bung type.

Check with a multimeter/continunity.
Remove from the cylinder head and place in a bowl of hot water.

orange & green wire(sensor)
38-52*c(100.4~125.6 k)ohm
26-34*c(78.8~93.2k)ohm

pink &black wire(sensor)
93*c (199.4k)ohm.
83*c (181.4k)ohm
