  • Engine won't turn off

This one is really weird. The engine (2002 Yamaha 90TLRA) starts and runs fine, too good. It won't turn off. Neither the ignition switch nor the safety release will kill the engine. The only way to stop it is to remove the fuel line and let it run out of gas.
    What should I check first?

When you turn the key off all you are really doing is grounding out the ignition. You may have a bad ground connection in the control.

Thanks Mike....Can you recommend where I should look for this bad ground? If it doensn't turn out to be the ground, what else would you look for?

It would be inside your control. If it's not that then you would have a broken wire or bad ignition switch.

It could also be a bad ground connection on the motor.

I had the exact same problem with my 94 200TXRS. Turned out the large main electrical connector inside the motor wiggled loose. After pushing it back together all worked OK. The way I would stop it before I discovered the loose connector was to choke it till it shut off.
