  • tach problems

Got a used tach and installed it, started the engine and it read properly at idle but at full throtle it would only read 3400 rpm. It is set for 4cyl and it is from a 4 stroke. The engine is a 2008 75 hp tiller proped correctly

If the rpms don't bounce around, sounds like it's set for an engine with a different number of cylinders or 2 vs 4 stroke. At low rpms it may be reading wrong, but the difference is not as noticeable. Otherwise I'd look for a bad connection.

I suggest Looking up the model number from the housing online to find a manual or similar. I suspect on the back is a coded rotary screwdriver switch that can be set for a multitude of engine types.

Good luck and keep us posted.
