  • No Spark

1990 Yamaha 15 hp. Engine ran great the first day. Tried to start it the second day and no go. I don't think it is getting spark. What is the best way to check for spark? If it doesn,t have any spark what would be the process to find out what it is? Thanks

The model number would help. Remote or tiller?

a very simple (and sometimes dangerous) way to check for spark is to pull the plugs, fit a plug back into the plug lead and hold the metal part of the plug against the engine (make sure it is metal) when you turn it over, a spark should be seen easily, make sure there is no petrol (gas) anywhere near the spark. A possible cause of no spark is the cutoout system has failed, or a possible bad earth or broken connector, as a general rule, Yamaha electrics are pretty robust.
