  • Broken Upper case on 1991 Yamaha 40RLRP

Hey I'm working on a 40 hp for my sister in law and when I pulled the well worn
shock mount between the mounting arm and the upper case. I found a huge missing piece behind the rubber shock. I'm trying to save her the 500 bucks for a new upper case. I'm thinking of of using the shock mount as a mold and making a piece out of fiber glass . Just to seal that area up. It must have been run some time like that. What damage can I expect to find ?

    Thanks in advance
    Brian

A photo would be helpful, but there may be lots of ways to rig up something, maybe eliminate shock mounts, maybe have it welded. With a smaller 40HP motor you might get by with some kind of backyard engineering, better than say a 150HP. Good Luck!
