black exhaust stain????

HEllo,

I have a 2006 Yamaha 50HP two stroke outboard.

I'm just wondering if this is normal. On the rear of the motor below the latch to remove the cover is what looks like some sort of exhaust port. Below that is what appears to be black soot. It wipes of easily with a rag.

my questions are

1.) what is this port?
2.) is the black substance supposed to be there?

Idle exhaust pot is the name of the opening, it gives the exhaust some place to exit while idling as it normally exits the prop area while under way.

The black stuff is incomplete burnt fuel/oil mix
