lower unit came out of neutral when changing water pump

Please help i have a 1999 yamaha c60 when i changed out the water pump i dropped the lower unit in neutral ......however when i put it back together and i start the boat with shifter in neutral it is in foreward.....how do i fix this... thanks in advance....

Just drop the lower unit, wrap a rag around shifter shaft to protect it, grab shifter shaft with Channel Lock pliers, rotate prop shaft by hand while shifting by hand until you find neutral. Put your remote control in neutral position also, bolt your lower unit back on and they'll be synchronized. Good Luck!
