  • Yamaha 40 hp to 50 hp conversion

Hi, I hope you guys can help me. How hard is it to convert a 1998 3cyl 40 hp yamaha to 50 hp. All the specs seem to be the same for each motor. If this is possible? Is the change worth the 10 extra hp? Thanks Lee

I havn't seen any of these type of conversion work very well. It cost a lot of money and you don't gain enough to make it worth while.

Your going to gain 10hp and its going to cost you about $400 in parts, plus the cost of a new prop to take advantage of the hP increase.

        40 to 50 convert

You can put actually a 60 hp tuner and rejet the carbs to 50 or 60 hp. Boyesen reeds and this motor will rip. More than likley a 14 pitch prop wwould be good. You need to be at the top of the RPM range with boat fully laoded, 5700-6000 RPM is where this motor performs best. Good luck, Bobby..
