  • Yamaha LF225 1999 Bearing carrier removal???

I have 2 Yamaha LF225 counter rotating gearcases that I cannot remove the bearing carriers. I need to swap the driveshafts. I have removed the shift rods and tried a slide hammer on the propshaft and OMC puller legs. I have also used oxy/acet to no avail. One of the gearrcases came with the top bearing carrier retainer bolt broke off, but I can't get either one to budge. Any suggestions?

Rodbolt will probably be able to give you some good advice on this subject if he picks up on your thread...he may just be busy...Good Luck!

the prop shaft AND the bearing carrier MUST come out together.
you CANNOT use the OMC puller legs.
YOU WILL destroy something try the OMC puller legs.
try using the prop shaft slide hammer adapter YB-06335 and copious amounts of oxygen/acetylyne.
all the way up until you melt a hole in the case, the more heat the better.
once the carrier/propshaft assy is out you will need a bearing seperator, a press and a spanner wrench to dissasemble/reassemble the carrier.
I hate one piece shaft L units.
