  • 90 HP water pump repair problem

I pulled the lower unit on my 2000 90 HP to check the water pump. I'm ready to reassemble it and I can't find neutral. I've turned the shift shaft both ways into reverse and forward, but can't seem to find a spot where the prop shaft doesn't turn when I turn the drive shaft by hand. My manual says to turn the driveshaft cw, which I'm doing. Any help greatly appreciated.

    gander,
Neutral should be halfway between forward and reverse - try to find the detent there and turn the driveshaft cw while holding the prop shaft - maybe just the viscosity of the lower unit oil is making the prop shaft turn a little.
    Good luck,

      Thanks Ken,
I finally got the thing back together. I don't think the motor has ever had water pump work. The pump should be good for a few years now.
