  • White stain on Yamaha90

Hi, We have a Yamaha 90 on a scout and it looked like this after we got it out of the water last weekend. It was fine in the morning and we noticed this when it came out of the water - this stuff is like a white powder that you could scratch off with your fingernail. It would not just rub off I had to use some scotchbrite to buff it off - has anyone seen this? it looks like it came out of that vent right above the lower unit.

the water pump has been rebuilt -- impeller and all gaskets, the telltale is flowing good and no indication went off -- temp etc..

    thanks!!

It's just mineral deposits left on the leg from the water when it hits the leg and evaporates. Some vinegar or car polish/wax will remove it, but abrasives like Scotchbrite pads will scratch your paint. My motor always has those white chaulky deposits, especially after running in saltwater. No big problem!
