  • 2002 40 hp shifting problem

I'm new to the yamaha world, I just bought a c40tlra. I haven't even had a chance to run it in the river yet. I have a couple of questions that hopefully you guys can help me out with.

    1) Shifter seemed to work fine the day of purchase. I'm still waiting on my new cables to come in, but today i was disconnecting the old ones and noticed that on the actual motor it is really hard to shift into reverse. The old cables were a little ruff, but even with the new ones I dont see it shifting like it should. Is there a way to free this up, so it will shift a little smoother??

    2) The motor is super clean except for the very top of the cowling is faded. any tricks to bringing the shine back??

    Thanks,

    Jon

Once your new cables are in hand you'll notice them smooth like butter, compared to a little ruff. It makes a big difference on the shifter especially since reverse is on the push of the cable.
