  • Hard Shifting

I have a 2001 T8PLHZ with the shift lever in the steering arm. It is a kicker motor for my saltwater boat. It has become very difficult to shift.

My question is, do I need to replace the shift cable or can it be lubricated? Also what is the part number for the cable if I need to order a new one. Looked at the schmatics but didn't see the shift cable.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

It could be the cable or the any part of the linkage, disconnect cable and see if anything is hard to shift.
The cable is number 44 in this diagram Yamaha Outboard Parts 2001 T8PLHZ STEERING (FOR PH) Diagram
