  • hooking up a tach

'88 70hp.....purchased a new tach with oil level warning lights and am trying to figure out the wiring. See the black and green wires run the tach part, but don;t have a green for oil lights, as coming from the tach unit. Don't have the plug in, so need to splice everything.
Was assured it would work, but maybe not ??
Any electrical gurus on here ?
    Appreciate it....Dan H

The new style tachs are not compatable for an 88 model motor, you would have a difficult time getting oil lights to work properly on that motor.

      tach issue

Is there a way to at least get the tach part to work ? I'd be happy with just that at this point. The manual shows only the black and green wires going to the tach side of the unit, as does the instructions. No hot or ignition wires are indicated.
If this one can't be made to work, is there one that will....now that the big hole is in the dash ?
Thanks, tho.....guess I was given bad information.
