  • Running but going nowhere HELP!

    Hi,

I recently bought a used 2hp Yamaha outboard for my Canoe. It was running badly when I got it and the previous owner told me it needed a new carby. I bought a new carby and fitted it and it seems to be running nicely.

So the problem is when I took it out for it's maiden vouage the engine was running fine but I was bearly moving. I proceeded to increase the rev's and it didn't move any faster. But it did start to make a bad RANT RANT noise from the base of the motor were the leg starts as i increased the rev's and load.

I researched and have come up with the thought it might be the connecting rod slipping.

Anyone have any idea's form me??

    Thanks for the help....

make sure you have the right carb. Wrong main jet (to big or to small) may idle good but not turn up. a rod problem will normally kock all the time. An over propped motor can make odd noises when loaded. they make a alumnum & plastic prop. check pitch size and maybe try a lower pitch?
