OX66 issue

I have an 02 VMax 225 which has developed an unusual problem. I would say maybe 2 out of 30 starts, when I turn the key, the starter spins but the motor will not fire up. If I tilt the engine out of the water, it cranks up just fine. Also there is no indication of a problem when underway. Any one have a clue as to what may be happening here?

Sounds like the bendix isn't raising into the flywheel. Maybe a squirt of WD40?

possibly wire problems as you tilt up the wires bend and connections change. Just a thought
