  • 90hp tlry over charging?

Was running motor in driveway while hooking up tach I also checked volts at battery. While running at idle hit 15volts at battery walmart group 29 dual purpose around 2006 with a previous owner so it could have sulfation. Seems to hold 100 percent charge. Is this normal readings at battery while running. The regulator or rectifier thingy seems to be in good exterior condition. I found that Yamaha offers a kit under the dash that regulates voltage better so your not frying electronics. Is this a free part offered for 90hp motors.

My 90C Yamaha has an indicated charge rate usually between 14.5 and 15.5 volts, depending on RPM's...so far it seems fine. Good Luck!

One other thought, if your battery is a 2006 model, it may be getting towards the end of it's life...lot depends on where and how far you boat...out in the ocean, I'd worry about a 5+year old battery. Maybe replace it before it leaves you stuck somewhere "down the river without a paddle". Just a thought!
