i can barley turn my engine with the steering cable out. go through a new cable and helm a year. been getting worse for a while now. a mechanic told me 2,000.00 to fix steering rod. any suggestions before i do this? is my motor worth it? thanks

I recently got a boat with a 150 hp yam and cable steering which was very heavy. I replaced it with hydraulic steering which I installed myself. Total cost of kit was AUD $1000 (approx US $1000) . It was well worth the money and effort and is far superior and lighter than cable steering.

You are the only one that knows what motor you have and what shape it is in, so you have to make the decision if it is worth it.
