  • hard start

    I have a 2000 yamaha four stroke 25 hp motor. it's very had to start first thing in the morning after that it runs like its new. any idea's?

    Be sure to prime it good by pumping the primer bulb until it's hard, then check your choke/enrichening device for proper operation/setting. Is your spark plug clean and do you have spark? Is your ignition switch on? I On some motors you have to have your throttle in the full closed position on cold starts. Double check and adjust your starting procedure because some motors have their peculiarities about starting. I know my 90HP Yamaha likes me to crank on it about 3 or 4 seconds, let off a few seconds, and then she'll crank right up. So go figure, sorta like women-folks! Good Luck!

      Don't know about yours, but some Yamahas have a little silver lever under the key that is the choke. If you don't know this and don't hold it on while cranking a cold engine, it will be hard to start, especially on cold mornings.
