You have the serial number but that is just part of the equation. In front of the serial number will be the shaft length letter and then the model prefix. The whole enchilada is referred to as the primary identification number. PID.Originally posted by animal_lover357 View Posthello I have a serial # and I cant find the model # I looked on google but I cant have find any site and people confuse them self with the model # the serial # I have is 921638 it a Yamaha 40 2stroke ? ????? help
It might look something like 6E9 S 553616. Which is a 1993 model 40FR

Have you entered your full PID on this site? The fields are at the top of the page. I believe the letter before the actual serial number needs to be left out

I don't think you have to have any special access I have never requested anything and can look at it for my engine without problem, at least the area this link takes you to? If you enter your PID it will show you over to the right what you engine is year and model etc.Originally posted by dwd125SB View PostThanks .... but that is a parts pro site...I don't have access. I can't believe its this difficult to determine model and year from a PID.Dennis

for the OP - here's how to get to where you enter your PID to see the parts for your specific engineOriginally posted by 99yam40 View Postyour link did not work for me either
1. Go to Yamahaoutboards.com and click on "Maintenance" link

2. on that page, click on "outboard parts" link

3. at the top of the parts page, enter your PID
