  • 1994 40tlrs chirping and loss comp

It all started when I was running wide open and died. Started right back up and noticed it took while to plane. Headed back to dock and the chirping began. First shop checked compression 120,118,and 0 in bottom. They said $3000 plus labor for new powerhead. Just dropped boat off a hour and a half away hopping for different diagnosis.

    Any suggestions opinions are appreciated
    thanks David in La.

For the past year has been perfect motor and did not overheat

Is this thing premix or self oiling?
Have you done any maintenance to this thing in the last few years?

Sounds like it was running lean or the fuel pump developed a leak and washed the bottom cylinder, galling the piston and cylinder wall .
You can always ask the opinions of the shop of what happened.

First shop didn't offer much info. Waiting to hear back from second shop. I bought it exactly 1 year ago with the oil tank removed. Put it on brand new Carolina skiff 2 weeks ago and brought to shop to change water pump and sync carbs since it wasn't running right. Then I recieved news of no comp in bottom cylinder. Hopefully hear back from shop tomorrow. One thing I did notice was when I put a néw fuel line the other day the tank pressured up?
