Just got a Yamaha 40 hp,trying to figure out the numbers:

( facing back of motor ) 40ELN on right side of motor, 40HEO with 6H4 L 402104 written under it, on left side of motor. I think its an 1984 modle,just want to make sure B4 I start asking any other questions. Thank in advance for any help.

N would be the correct designation for an 84, some of the 84-85 engines for the US market still had international market designators as well.
thats the 40HEO.
40ELN is the US designation of a 40 hp 20" shaft 1984 model

I have a Yam 40HEO , been trying to find carb rebuild kit to no avail yet. Did learn this HEO is foreign designation (Japan) and was told other model rebuild kits would not work. I was given a name and phone number to call but no contact has been made. I quiz myself if three domestic carbs (other models) would interchange ok. My top carb does not seem to respond to adjusting. If any thoughts please respond (reply).
