  • F-225 won't start

'03 F-225, only get a "click" when I turn key.
    Background:

Boat/motor is stored 6 months (MOL) at a time.
Batteries are full, I've check batt connections at battery and motor,
I hear a faint "click". After several on and offs at key switch,
motor usually turns over and starts.

Could this be the "starter relay" ?
Anyone know where it is on motor and can I check it/

    Thanks,
    and Merry Christmas to all.

    sounds like a grounding issue

    I had a similiar issue.
Everything was tight, batteries tested fine, terminals and cables looked good.
I ened up scraping battery terminals and she fired up.
Make sure the ground on your motor is tight and looks fine.
I would also check the ground wire from battery to engine. Look for ware and tear, any fraying from rubbing. Things of that nature.
These engines need a good path to ground.
    Keep us informed.
It is possible it is the starter. Again i would check wiring. It is possible the teeth will only grab in certian spots. Thats why it will start after several attempts.
    Hope this helps

I would double check all connections, do a voltage drop test.
the start relay is located under the tilt relay.
requires air box removal to access.

Yep, check the easy things first
Went back and tightened all four battery connections
as much as half a turn.
        No corrosion.
I am guilty of not "overtightening" battery connections and
        risking stripping.

Think that took care of it.

        Thanks, y'all
