I have a 2000 Yamaha 225hp OX 66 outboard and this is my problem. After running on plane with no problems for approx. 20-25 minutes the engine drops 800 - 1,000 rpms. If i stop, restart engine after sitting for 1 or 2 minutes the engine resumes running ok for a few more minutes. The engine never totally stops running. My Yamaha man check for codes and no codes appeared. This happens every time after approx 20 minutes of running. Replaced CDI ignition (very expensive) and now they are thinking stator or ignition coils. The idea of just throwing more money at parts without knowing the problem is driving me crazy. Can anyone offer advice. (I am not a tech but would love to pass on some valuable info on to to my tech)

    Thanks, Alan Campbell

The best way to troubleshoot is to test for spark, fuel vacumn and fuel pressure and timing while running at the time it drops rpm's.
