  • boat will not go forward

I just bought a boat about 3 weeks ago (used) and this weekend it stopped going forward. Will still go backwards. I replaced the prop and no change. I think the gears are stripped, but not sure. Anyone have any ideas before I have to take it in to a shop and spend my vacation money? Thanks.

    AW,
Take the hood off the motor and check out the shift linkage - may be that the shift cable is not putting the outboard in forward gear - connection to shifting arm may be loose.
    Good luck,

having the same problem, shift linkage is intact but the cable is not moving at all, could it be broken by the remote control?

Disconnect the shifter cable at the engine and try shifting it.

If it doesn't move its most likely broke or a problem inside the remote control.

Once disconnected at the remote try manually moving the cable to see if its rusted solid or broke...

          Good luck
