VMAX cuts out on top end

I just bought a 2001 SKEETER with a 150 VMAX.took it out to run it the other day and its cutting out on top end.holeshot is strong,does not have a miss and does not idle rough.everything is good until it hits about 45 mph then it cuts out.I ease off throttle until it kicks back in and it will continue to cut out at the 45 mph range.What could be causing this and what should I change first?

What rpm's does it start to miss? If over 6000 rpm's then rev limiter may be activating.
