  • Fuel Filter Element won't fit

Ordered a new fuel filter element for my 86 150 O/B from an online OEM parts supplier. Part number on package matched part number on parts diagram, but the element is of smaller diameter than the one I['m replacing, so it won't fit inside the cannister and allow me to screw on the bottom of the cannister. Yamaha Customer Service in Atlanta confirms I have the right part number and I'm sure the cannister on the engine is OEM, so now what? Curious is anyone else has had this problem and how resolved?

One solution to your problem would be to discard/forget the Yamaha filter cartridge(maybe bypass it entirely with a section of fuel line) and install the fuel/water separator/filter from Walmart($27), easy 2 screw intallation, provide much better filtering of fuel than the under cowl unit that comes on the motor. Good Luck!
