What fuel should i be using ??

Hi,

I live in the uk and i own a Yamaha 55hp outtboard on the plates is

> 663 L 30043
The engine is a 100:1 model.

Now this model is belived to be from 84/85 and back then 4 STAR pertol was all you could get. Now all we can get is unleaded which is what i have been using. You can get additives to put into the unleaded to make it like 4 STAR.

Do you think that the engine would run better/smoother with the additive or do you think this would make no difference at all ??

John,
I am assuming the outboard you have is a 2-stroke. If it is, then I would not be concerned about no lead in the fuel since there are no valves in the head of a 2-stroke. I would be concerned about what octane the owners manual for that particular model recommends. You need to be within, say, one point of the recommended octane for max performance.
