  • Digital Gauges for 115hp Engine

I'm contemplating the purchase of a 1996 Pro Sports 1950 boat with a 115hp Saltwater Series engine. The display on the digital speedometer and tachometer are barely readable ... about the only thing that can be made out is the "trim" and the "gas level" ... both of which are on the right side of the displays. The majority of both displays look like a collection of grays spots!

Given the price of new gauges, my question ... is it most likely the gauges are shot, or is it likely that the wiring/ground is the problem?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

    john,
Most likely the gauges were left exposed to the elements, and sun exposure has ruined the displays. Go to www.ebay.com and type in "yamaha outboard" - I see digital gauges listed there quite often, and at good prices.
    Good luck,
    Ken K

That's one vote for "shot gauges" (vs. bad wiring)! Any other opinions?

I just hate to spend over $400 for new gauges if the problem is in the wiring!
