  • Lower Unit

I have a 150 TLRZ and I broke a drive gear last week. I know I need the gear and pinion and have been advised to get the reverse gear as well since it is scarred but not deformed.

I'm a little confused about the shimming and what-not and my mechanic\dealer that I trust told me I would probably be better off getting the complete lower unit. I'm looking at about $800 to fix it (water pump and trim tab included) and around $2200 to replace.

What is everyone's opinion about my ordeal??

Also, what is the difference between a 150 TLR and a 150 TLRZ??

If don't have the shimming tools to properly rebuild gearcase then new gearcase may be best way to go.
    150TLRZ is a 2001 model, 150TLR is a 2006 or newer model.
