Intermittent trim tilt problem

My 2001 90 2 stoke Yamaha won't trim down occasionally when I use either of the trim switches. It trims up normally and also down but every 3rd or forth time I just get a click back at the relay and I have to hit the trim switch 4 or 5 times to get the engine to trim down. The motor sounds fine and the speed of trimming seems normal. It also happens with both the engine switch and the binnacle switch. Could this be the relay? I checked the battery grounds and the wiring to the relay and all seems OK. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

yes i would check the relay as both switches are triggering the relay as it is clicking

Mitch, Thank you very much for responding! I will be replacing the relay tomorrow and we'll see what happens.

Tim, Did replacing the relay fix your trim problem? I have exactly the same problem on a 25 horse Yamaha...
