  • 1990 225 yamaha prime starter

I no longer hear like a pump running when I turn the key on! Tested for voltage and was getting power with the key on, but before I replace the prime starter ($250) is there any other reason it would quit working? A sensor or anything? Wont idle, very hard to start, but is sluggish to get on a slide but runs good at WOT! My question I guess is if the pumps not working and has Power to it would anything else stop it from running???????? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Are you asking about the pump or the prime start system

I beleive the prime start cause it has vacume(mechanical) style fuel pumps, the only thing with 12 volt going to it is the prime start! I assume that was the pump I used to hear running when you turn the key on?

There isn't an electric pump on the engine of a 225, the 250 did. The prime starter is the choke system. Not sure what you hear running.
