  • grinds shifting into gear

115 ETLG Grinds shifting into forward or reverse, is their an adjustment for this or is it and rpm issue.

  • #2
The only shift adjustment is at the engine put engine in neutral position and adjust shift cable to fit on engine shifter. The engine should idle at 800 rpm's, 600 rpm's in gear.

Go to www.YamahaPubs.com and order yourself a service manual for your motor. In it will be specs for everything and how to adjust the linkage and idle settings. Your linkage is not adjusted correctly or the idle is way to high.

you can unhook cables at motor end end engage by hand after you check rpm`s.they usually will "klunk" in n outta gear... . year of motor ??? has your shift shaft been replaced if older than 93 ?? visually inspect it above the lower unit. if its rusty and thin, you might not be fully engaging. if its all clean you could have gear probs. Post your fix !
