  • Replacing Trim Switch in 704 Control

I'm not able to remove the plastic cover on my 704 control box, screws are corroded in and not removable without breaking the screw heads off. I need to replace the trim switch. I guess I'll have to splice the wires unless anyone here can suggest another way to get at the connectors for the switch.

If the screws break you can replace the brackets that the screws screw into and put new screws in it(use grease on screws), number 50 in this diagram Yamaha Outboard Parts 2005 OUTBOARD RIGGING PARTS BREAKDOWN CONTROL BINNACLE PREMIUM SINGLE Diagram

Thanks, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the scematic. The motor's a 2001 200hpdi and the #704 binnacle control I think is 2002. The #704 mounts flat on the console.

Yes it's the same control box as yours.

It looks more like this, which would be part #53: Yamaha Outboard Parts 2005 OUTBOARD RIGGING PARTS BREAKDOWN CONTROL BINNACLE STANDARD SINGLE Diagram

Itr appears to be the base plate and necessitates removing the entire control from the console to replace that part. Is that true?

Yes you would have to remove control from dash to replace them, that same bracket holds control box to dash.
