  • Yamaha 200 H.P. Overheat

I have been told by a mechanic friend that if you suspect that any debris is present in an engine that may floating around in the cooling passages you can remove the thermostat covers and thermostats and run the engine to remove the debris.
I wonder if this is a good idea or if it might cause a problem. Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

water would get all over things hopefully it would not be saltwater and if you don't run but for a very short time in may not hurt.
Just remember you will not have water flowing around all of the motor parts and it will over heat rapidly. probably better to drop lower unit and hook a hose to the water pipe and flush that way with the stats and covers out.
