  • New Gauges for 1993 200 TXRR

I attempted to install the new gauges I bought from Boats.net Tuesday (6Y5-8350T-83-00 TACHOMETER ASSY and 6Y5-83570-S6-00 SPEEDOMETER ASY). The connectors on the new tach do not match up with the connectors on the existing trim harness. I contacted Boats.net and they said I needed trim harness 6Y5-83653-20-00 and gauge harness 6Y5-83553-N0-00, which I received a few minutes ago. I am perplexed because the trim harness only has one connector whereas the tach has two connectors. I contacted Boats.net tech support and they said I would be fine, that the other connector out of the tach is not needed for my application. Does this sound right? The wiring diagrams I have looked at show both connectors being used. I am 2 hours from the boat and I don't want to go there with the wrong harness. Thanks for any help.

Wrong trim/oil harness for that tachometer.

On the old tachometer, did it have square or round connectors?

      Square connectors.

Would 68F-82553-70-00 work? Looks like it has 2 connectors.

That is the one if 23 feet is the length required.

Do I also need the gauge harness 6Y5-83553-N0-00?

Only if the old one is inoperative. Or you don't have one already in the boat.

OK - I guess the one that worked with the old gauges will work. I think I will hang on to the new one until I know for sure and return it if I don't need it. Thanks for all the help!

How about one of these adapter harnesses - 6Y5-85335-10-00 or 6Y5-85335-00-00 - would one of these work? Seems like that would be easier than fishing in a new trim harness.

Those adapters only work on motors back to 2001.

If you are just replacing the gauges what happened to the harness that was in the boat? Why not just reuse it, the same as you are going to do with the other gauge harness?

The connectors on the harness don't match up with the connectors on the gauge. I may have given you the wrong answer on the connector type. They are round on the outside and square on the inside. Attached pic may help if I did it right. Thanks.

Can I splice the connectors from the old gauges onto the new gauges?

You did. That is why I asked in the first place.

Yamaha made a significant change to the instruments and harnesses in 1994 when they changed from round connectors to square connectors. The diagram below shows how a 1993 and earlier model Yamaha is connected to 1994 and later gauges.

So I would need this adapter kit 6R3-ADPKT-93-94?

Only if you are going to be installing an updated oil tank in the boat.

I don't think the parts comprised as a "kit" are still available as a kit.
