  • 703 contoller wires (1993 Yamaha 90)

    Hi,
Recently purchased a Yamaha 1993 90hp 2-stroke Power Trim and tilt. It has a 703 Remote Control box. It did not come with any instruments but it looks like some wires are coming out of the 703 that must be for instrument gauges? (picture attached)

I think i can be pretty sure that the 3 wires on the left (Black/Green/Yellow) are for a tachometer, only powered when the key is on by using the Yellow?

But what is the trio with Pink Wire for? (Double-Yellow/Black/Pink)
i have been googling the heck out of this subject and most of the articles i can find that mention a Pink wire claim either a trim gauge, or the majority seem to point to a temp/oil alarm. Does anyone out there know for sure what those wires are for? ? before i go buying gauges ....
(reminder this is from 1993) (Double-Yellow/Black/Pink)
    Thanks,
    tom

Black, green and yellow are for gauges. The other wires are not used on your motor.

Thank you very much boats.net !!!

does that mean i can only hook up a tach?
(i'm fine with that if that's the case, a tach is all i really need. i have 3 empty holes in the dash just wondered if i could hook up more gauges with those wires directly from 703 without needing extra wires or senders from the motor)

          Thanks again,

Get the 6Y5-83553-N0-00 gauge harness, it has multi connectors terminals so can plug several gauges to each wire.

when i look up that part (on this site) it says it is for 2006 and later.
can i use that part or my 1993?
                Thanks again,

                    Thanks!

i'm going to go ahead and order one based on your say so.

hopefully when i see it, it will make sense to me. im having trouble understanding how if i have 3 wires in my 703 - (power, ground, and tach signal), how adding more wires to that can run more gauges when there is only a tach signal, but like i said maybe it will make sense when i see it?

                    Thanks again,
                    tom

only the tach needs a tach signal.
the rest just key on 12v and the ground.
if you want trim and alarm visual indicates its gonna need another harness from the engine to the console.

OK, i ordered 6Y5-83553-N0-00 gauge harness it's on the way.

When it gets here hopefully what you are trying to tell me will become clear. i guess im just stupid or something, and i'm no electrician but in the way i know the world to work i don't see how a gauge can operate without a signal. power and ground can supply power but i don't see how that completes anything im pretty sure the system is not advanced enough to send signal over the power lines. i guess i'd better quit asking because im just getting more confused.

Thanks very much for trying to make me understand,
                        tom

I believe he means you will be needing another harness besides the one you ordered to get the signals to the gauges.
                          Maybe they can confirm this

                            yellow is key on 12v.
black is the 12v return path(ground)
                            green is tach send signal.
only gauge that needs the green tach send is the tach.
the voltmeter will simply need a yellow and black.
a fuel guage will need a yellow, black and whatever color you use from the tank sender.
a trim meter will need the yellow, black and the harness from the engine to the console.
                            see how this works?

                              Ah, thank you rodbolt17,
That makes more sense now. So my suspicion is correct, there is not enough wiring coming out of the 703 to signal more instruments, other than the tach? The part that i ordered is only going to provide power from the 703 for more guages? in other words it will just be several sets of yellow and black? i will then need to provide additional wiring for signal from the engine directly up to any new gauges? The '6Y5-83553-N0-00 gauge harness' is only one part of the solution? Do i understand that right now?
                              Thanks again,
