Just a response about Backyardians
30 plus years ago I taught myself how to repair commercial laundry equipment .. I went from step "0" to having 5 service technicians with 5 fully stocked trucks working for me servicing over 100 accounts .. SO MUCH FOR YOUR IGNORANT COMMENT REGARDING "BACKYARDIANS" ... I guess I took offense to that.. I bought my first motorcycle as a frame and two bushels of parts... it ran very well when I assembled it .. I have a master's degree and I can read schematics, know how to find information and can read a service manual. I have learned that most people that are good technicians are not so insecure, that they are adverse to sharing their knowledge with you. I know that in order to repair ANYTHING... you first have to understand how it works ..I find it offensive that you would be pre disposed to the notion that someone cant think and understand . You may want to re-think painting your picture with such a broad brush.

"Backyardians" can't read or learn....Originally posted by panasonic View PostLike you said...no different than any other thing, just needs to be learned. If nothing else it is very interesting.
But as as RodBolt said in his own "special" way, a lot of people don't have a basic knowledge of what's going on and start throwing expensive parts at a problem. BUT that is not everyone...lots of people can look after their own stuff and this is a valuable tool in doing so.
They shouldn't even change their own motor oil / filter as they'll strip the threads...
Just bring it to the shop and have a PAID Yamaha professional screw up your engine for you..

I think it is up to 2.32.
if you have no clue as to why the component is there and how the ECU reacts to various inputs, the laptop is a waste of time and coin.
the ECU does not know the map sensor is feeding it bogus info.
the ECU does not know the t-stat is stuck open.
the ECU will simply react.
may make the motor run like a mutt and throw no codes.
that is where the neck mounted computer takes over.

cause most folks simply don't understand whaat the codes mean.
they go buy a part cause the computer said it was bad.
idiots.
the computer only said it did not like the input. said noting about what the issue is.
the puter twixt your ears does the trouble shooting.
the laptop just gives information faster.

Yep. Yamaha US sold the hardware and software years ago and then one day up and decided it was not something that should be in the hands of an owner.
Not sure why but I think the thinking was that folks being able to take care of their own motors would take work away from Yamaha US dealers.

I think Yamaha said that owners of motors do not need them, so will not sell to owners.
that is why others have taken up to selling of stuff that may or may not be right for the motor

Seems that most on here use the "knock-off" versions purchased from vendors other than Yamaha. 1.33 is an old version. I forget the latest version number.
