Did you physically put the motor leads/wires on a good battery to test? And then swap the leads between plus and minus to reverse motor?
Yes I did after reading the green becomes the ground for the blue and vice versa yesterday but for the lack of anything else I tried it again this morning and got a little burp out of the motor but that was it with the leads straight on a battery..about a 1/2 sec power on the brushes so then I screwed the tabs back on the relay and it worked.. I ran it up and down 6 times with the button on the motor. Now I have to get the switch working at the helm but none of my gauges are working..
did you see this post and pic on brushes?
maybe you need to open your up and have a look to see if cleaning things up would work instead of buying a new motor. http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/f...d-th27545.html
Also it sound like it is working well after you put it back together, maybe you had a bad connection
Mercury Marine makes a retrofit kit to convert from the expensive Yamaha relay assembly to two standard Bosch relays. About ten bucks a relay. Replace only one or the other if and when one fails.
