I have a new to me 9.9HT on my sailboat. According to the serial number plate it's a T9.9LEB, 6AVK. Serial number L1025611A.
The previous owner put a new carb on it for reasons unknown to me.
Since owning the boat I've added a manual choke knob as there was one and pulling the cowling to actuate the choke was a pain.
Last weekend I managed to start it but it was a bear to keep running. Once running the idle speed seems really low, low enough that the motor shakes, then it speeds up for a maybe ten seconds, then down again for ten... rinse and repeat.
The adjustment screw with the spring on the top on the left side of the carb is screwed almost all the way in. It opens the butterfly valve slightly
I have the old carb and looking at the intake side I see a tiny hole which I presume is part of the idle circuit. I'm guessing with the butterfly valve open slightly, the idle circuit is not working properly causing the hunting idle.
I've attached a picture of the old carb. The screw in question is the one that's screwed in almost all the way.
Any assistance in sorting out this issue is greatly appreciated.
